Frequently Asked Questions

How do we know which grade to enroll our camper in? Campers should be enrolled in the camp for the grade they are entering into in the 2020-2021 school year. For example, if your child finished second grade last year, they would be joining us at Camp Wenonah as an “Explorer Camper” in the third grade group.

What grade do you have to be in to attend the overnight? Campers in grades third or above are invited to join us for the overnight camping experience. Overnight camping is on Thursdays. Overnights are only for Traditional Camp Wenonah and Adventure Camp.

What is Family Night? Family Night is an opportunity for parents to join their campers out at Camp Wenonah for a celebration of your child’s week at camp! During Family Night, the YMCA provides dinner and the campers showcase their camper skits as well as receive awards, and the ropes course is open for families to try. We end the night with a fire and s’mores. Family Night is on Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 pm. Family Night is only for Traditional Camp Wenonah.

Where is pick up on Thursday nights? For full-day camps, pick up is located at Camp Wenonah on Thursdays. If you do not plan to stay for Family Night, we ask that you pick up your child at Camp Wenonah, located at 31903 Camp Drive, Winona, Minnesota, 55987. Pick up is at 4:30 pm, unless you arrange for your child to stay with another family attending Camp Wenonah.

Where is pick up and drop off during the week? Pick up and drop off is located at the YMCA on every day except Thursdays. You can pick up and drop off your child in the Community Room, located on the third floor of the YMCA across from the gym. It is required that a parent signs their child in and out of our program. If your camper is in grades 6th-8th, they may sign themselves in and out only if a written consent form is provided to the Camp Wenonah Director a week prior to camp starting.

What should my camper bring to camp? Please be sure to pack a water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray, weather appropriate clothing, a hat, lunch and some extra snacks, and comfortable strapped on shoes. Campers must have strapped on shoes in order to participate in the ropes course. On Wednesdays and Fridays, please additionally pack a swimsuit and towel for your campers so they can participate in swimming at our Wednesday Field Trip and our slip and slide on Friday.  Please mark all of your campers things and be sure to pack personal items in a backpack to limit the loss of items. All items that are left at camp are collected on Fridays and left in a lost and found bin at the front desk. Additional packing lists are provided via email to families by the Tuesday before their week of camp.

What is the weekly field trip? Traditional Camp Wenonah campers participate in a variety of field trips throughout the week. Students in grades third and above will go canoeing while younger campers fish at Lake Winona. On these days, please be sure to pack a swimsuit and towel. Every Wednesday, all campers go to Whitewater State Park for hiking, environmental education, and swimming. Additionally, students will be taken to a local farm weekly to learn about raising chickens and local food. All parents will receive a confirmation email a week before camp starts with a calendar of activities for their camper’s week.
