The Teen Weight Room Orientation, is geared for youth ages 13-15 who wish to use the Wellness Center independent from an adult. The youth member will meet one-on-one with a personal trainer who will go over the safety aspects of using the machines, as well as general gym etiquette and YMCA expectations. When the orientation is completed and passed, the youth may use the Wellness Center without adult supervision.

Jackie has her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology, holds Personal Training and Group Exercise Certifications from NETA, that has been leading group fitness classes at the YMCA for over 13 years. She is also our Fitness & Wellness Director.

Jackie comes with a strong background and interest in group fitness and has additional training in body image, nutrition, TRX, Kettlebells, special medical considerations, and prenatal and postpartum fitness.

Jackie works with all ages and body types and will help make your workout fun and challenging--"I'll make sure we have fun, and get the job done!"


M-F 8:00-4:30 p.m.

Donielle Bennett, YMCA-ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor and YMCA-ACE Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, has been leading group fitness classes at the YMCA for five years and has been a personal trainer here for two years.


Donielle is also certified in Arthritis Foundations, NETA Senior Fitness, and several other specialty certifications in group fitness. Donielle enjoys working with active older adult members and can help you reach your health and wellness goals. Donielle is currently leading virtual and in person classes weekly for us.


Tues/Thurs/Fri morning availability.

Jordan Michelson is a graduate of Winona State University and holds a B.S.in Community Health. Jordan is a YMCA-ACE certified personal trainer and formerly held certifications through NETA for personal training and kettlebells. Jordan has been a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for 5 years prior to joining the Y Trainer Team. 

Jordan has a passion for weight training, especially powerlifting, and can usually be found in the Wellness Center working out. He has worked with all body types and those that range from beginner to advanced. "We all have to start somewhere, invest in your health and learn how to do it safely and properly with me". 


Tuesday-Friday after 4:30 p.m. Weekends by request.

Kenzie Meyerson is a YMCA-ACE Certified Personal Trainer who has her Bachelor's in Exercise Science at Winona State University. She has experience working with all age groups and all levels of fitness in both one-on-one and group settings. You may also find Kenzie leading some of our fitness classes as a group fitness instructor. 


"I am excited to be a part of the YMCA family. I look forward to walking alongside every member to give them the opportunity to fulfill their health and fitness goals."

Join her for Group Cycling Saturday mornings 9-9:30 a.m.

Ike Vesel has his Bachelor’s of Applied Science Degree in Physical Education, Master’s of Science in Education (health, physical education, and coaching emphasis), is IYCA certified in speed and agility, and is certified through ACE’s Foundations of Strength & Conditioning. He has trained and coached athletes ranging from 5th grade to the collegiate level. In addition to his 9 years of strength and conditioning experience, Ike is also a football, wrestling, and track & field coach.  


Ike is a former collegiate football player who has a strong background in working with young athletes. He is passionate about helping people progress to reach their goals and their full potential, regardless of age or ability!

You will also see Ike teaching some of our group fitness classes! 

M-Thurs 4:30 AM-5:45 AM.

Jake Klaver is a practicing LPN for going on 8 years now, currently studying for his BSN. Jake competes in amateur body building competitions through the National Physique Committee. He has a strong interest in the human body, body building, and strength training that has gone back to his youth when he read body building magazines cover to cover and later, took anatomy and physiology classes. He is a YMCA-ACE Strength & Conditioning certified trainer. Jake can be found regularly in the Wellness Center practicing what he preaches.


“The gym is exactly like life. The gym instills discipline, teaches how to persevere through pain, promotes goal setting, develops self-esteem, nurtures healthy relationships with others and is a safe place to fail. We all fall down, what matters most is that we get back up.”

Melissa Gernes has been leading group fitness classes at the Winona YMCA for over two years before recently becoming a YMCA-ACE Strength & Conditioning certified trainer. You can join Melissa in several of our YMCA group fitness classes such as HIIT (high-intensity interval training), Group Cycling, and even find her in the pool teaching Aqua Fit. 


“I am especially passionate about helping people find a workout that is fun, challenging, and helps them find love and enjoyment for their body and all it is capable of - because I truly believe that working out should be an act of love for your body.”


Tuesday, Thursday & from 8:00-10:00 a.m.

Melissa does have some additional availability with additional days and times by request.

Lisa is a fitness enthusiast whether it be personal training, group classes, postpartum/prenatal, or training for a fitness competition, she has personal experience with it. Lisa strives to help others work towards their goals and push their limits to make it happen. Whether you are just getting started, restarting, or looking for an extra push and motivation, Lisa is your girl. Lisa has been teaching group fitness classes with the Y for 5 years. She is a NETA certified cycle instructor and YMCA-ACE Strength and Conditioning certified trainer. Lisa also runs our TRX Small Group Personal Training.

Availability: MWF 4:30-5 a.m. &  Tu/Th 4:30-6 a.m. Late evenings (after 8pm) by request (with members that have the 24 hour access) with virtual and weekends, also by request.

Brooke Weaver is certified in YMCA-ACE Strength and Conditioning. She is finishing up her Bachelor's in Business Administration at Strayer University and is pursuing her Masters in Exercise Science. Brooke’s interests are in strength training and weight loss. She has always loved helping people and wants to guide them to success. Most days, you will find her in the Wellness Center or in Member Services. She also teaches fitness classes. “Expanding my knowledge is my passion to help the people around me. If you have questions and see me, don’t hesitate to ask!” 


As a Marine Veteran, her background will push and motivate you. She has worked out most of her life and continues to push herself. By applying the principles of all her training, she hopes to give you the start you need. She expects you to push yourself so she can help you achieve your goal.  


Mon, Wed, Fri 9-11:00 a.m., or Tues and Thurs early morning. Brooke does have some additional availability by request. Closed to new clients at this time.

Josh Hill has been a Group Fitness Instructor at the Winona Family Y since 2017. He is now Personal Trainer certified through Y-ACE Strength and Conditioning.

Amanda McPhail is a certified YMCA-ACE Strength & Conditioning Personal Trainer. She has her BA in Psychology and Sociology as well as her Graduate Degree in Alcohol & Drug Counseling. In addition to personal training at the Y, she coaches volleyball at Winona Area Public Schools and stays at home with her two little boys.

"I enjoy playing volleyball, pickleball, and boxing. I also like to swing dance, read, watch movies, and also play the piano. I love eating fresh fruits and veggies from my garden, but won't turn down ice cream or coffee treats". 



Mon 9-11 AM, Tues 10-11 AM, Wed 9-11 AM, Thurs 9-11 AM, and Fri 9-10 AM. Weekend availability by request.  In person availability. Limited openings at this time.

Nathan Kent has his BA in Public Health from Winona State University. He is a certified YMCA-ACE Strength & Conditioning Personal Trainer. 

Nathan knows his way around the weight room. He has been a Y member for years and is a self-motivated and determined personal trainer here to help you reach your fitness and wellness goals. 

Mon-Fri 4:30-7:30 PM. Weekends by request.

Cherie has spent over 15 years personally studying and implementing nutrition, running, and functional fitness. She has been a high school cross country coach for nine years, and has helped many adults with their running form and training plans, as well. Though her first love was running, she has grown in her experience of many kinds of fitness, including strength and conditioning and helping people achieve physique goals with a positive mindset. Cherie is also extremely passionate about helping people enjoy the process and showing them that fitness is a lifelong endeavor.

Cherie is a Certified Personal Trainer through International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). She is also in the process of becoming certified in Nutrition, Strength & Conditioning, and Body Building through ISSA. She has coached running for nine years, as well.


M-F 9am-2:30pm, with some early mornings 4:30-6am and evenings upon request
